This is an exceptional piece. I could not be more impressed. You captured these essential truths so succintly in your words.

And to what you asked, the area of my game that I've been circling around: endgames overall (I have been putting in the time for a few months now, but it's a long path with endgames), and I'd say confidence in navigating complex, messy calculative positions that require precision. I've been doing Vol. 1 of The Woodpecker Method for this part, and I can see the effects already.

But yeah, meeting your weaknesses head on and working on them consistently is a psychologically demanding task, which is why it doesn't come easy.

Thank you again for writing this phenomenal article, Junta. I needed to hear this.

I’m glad you found it useful Arshaq, really means a lot as the writer to receive comments like this.

Great that you’re seeing benefits from the Woodpecker Method. If you find a resource with endgame studies suited to your level, that could help with both precise calculation & finding more enjoyment in endgames too.

I have the opposite problem. My weakness is in middle games so I rush them to get to the endgames. I love endgames so I most certainly have a propensity to simply way too early. Not sitting with complications. It’s been identified and I’m working through it of course. I do agree with you not being comfortable in some area of the game can determine how one plays during.

Interesting! Not easy to quantify how much you’re losing in opportunities in the opening & middlegame (without knowing that you won’t be motivated to change) or how that shapes your decisions in each game but probably you can find some indications, great that you’re working through it.

Yeah it was hard to find for sure. I had inkling of it but wasn’t sure totally. My coach helped point it out.
